How Does a Bioclimatic Pergola Work?
The roof features aluminum louvers that rotate on their own axis. These louvers open between 0-120 degrees with a motor. When fully open, ventilation and sunlight pass through; when closed, rain and sun are completely blocked. When the panels are slightly opened, warm air is discharged upward, creating natural air circulation and reducing the need for air conditioning. Rain-sensor models close automatically when rain is detected.
Advantages of a Bioclimatic Pergola
- Controls sun and rain, making the terrace usable in any weather
- Protects the area beneath from rain when louvers are closed
- Open louvers provide air circulation, avoiding the stuffiness of classic awnings
- Water channels within the louvers discharge rainwater through hidden columns
Bioclimatic Pergola vs. Traditional Awning
A bioclimatic pergola is made of durable aluminum louvers; it has high wind resistance, can bear snow load and lasts over 25 years. A traditional awning is made of PVC or fabric; it wrinkles or tears in wind, cannot bear snow load, lasts 5-10 years and requires periodic fabric cleaning. In the long run, the bioclimatic system is both more durable and more economical.
Where Is It Used?
Bioclimatic pergolas are most preferred on villa and detached-house terraces, restaurant and cafe gardens, hotels and poolsides. They are especially valuable for businesses because they make outdoor seating usable even in the rain, increasing customer capacity.
Bioclimatic Pergola Prices
The price depends on the pergola's dimensions (width × length), louver type, number of motors, side-enclosure options (glass, zip screen) and extras such as LED lighting. For a precise quote, use the Calculate Price tool above or request a free survey.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a bioclimatic pergola bear snow load?
Properly produced T6 aluminum louvers are made with static calculations to bear a certain snow load. Our standard systems are sufficient for Istanbul conditions; for heavy-snow regions we recommend a reinforced model.
Are the sides left open?
Glass systems, zip screens or sliding glass can be added to the sides optionally. This protects the pergola area from wind and creates an enclosed four-season space.
Is a bioclimatic pergola really waterproof?
Yes. When the louvers are fully closed, the system is 100% waterproof. The hidden gutters and channels discharge rainwater down through the columns.
